Oximeters
An oximeter, or pulse oximeter is a medical device that indirectly measures the oxygen saturation in a patient's blood. Often times it is connected to a monitor so the patient's oxygenation can been seen at all times. The monitor displays the arterial hemoglobin levels. Normal ranges are acceptable from 95 to 100%, although values down even to 90% are common.
Most oximeter monitors also display the rate at which the heart is beating. There are portable battery operated oximeters that are becoming increaslingly popular for home blood-oxygen monitoring. These handy devices are useful any time there might be a need for supplemental oxygen.
